Type 2 diabetes is increasingly prevalent but also largely preventable.
A whole-food, plant-based diet has been shown to prevent and even reverse type-2 diabetes in many studies and research.

Diabetes
- Total: 37.3 million people have diabetes (11.3% of the US population)
- Diagnosed: 28.7 million people
- Undiagnosed: 8.5 million people (23.0% of adults are undiagnosed) –
- 1 in 5 don’t know they have diabetes
Prediabetes
- Total: 96 million people aged 18 years or older have prediabetes (38.0% of the adult US population)
- 65 years or older: 26.4 million people aged 65 years or older (48.8%) have prediabetes
- More than 8 in 10 adults don’t know they have prediabetes
Cost
- $327 billion in total medical costs and lost work and wages for people with diagnosed diabetes. This cost is expected to rise with the increasing diagnoses.
- Medical costs for people with diabetes are more than twice as high as those without diabetes.
